Up to Minus 20
Taken in the lift station at the top of Grand Montets (ALT - 3,295m), Chamonix Valley France.
I went up not to ski, but with camera and tripod to photograph the mountains and valley. The temperature inside the lift station was -20 deg and but with the slight breeze and will chill, well below that outside. The clouds occasionally billowed up and the airborne ice crystals turned the whole place into the inside of one of those sparkling water snow ornaments that you shake.
I took a few shots between the clouds passing through – the ice would freeze on my lens, so lens cap on. Although I had dressed for it and used inner gloves to operate the camera - with numb fingers, toes and ice on the camera after an hour standing around outside, I descended with my tail between my legs and not much to show for it except the fabulous views ...
This shot is the ride I took to get down.
It was not my most successful outing!
